Have your attempts at changing habits or creating new ones resulted in:
Feeling overwhelm and/ or defeat before you’ve even started?
Making well-meaning plans that ended up not having any staying power?
Burying your feelings with food, substances or distractions?
Beating yourself up for not having made the change before now?
If you strongly identified with any of the answers above, or all of them, welcome. You're not alone.
My job as a health coach is to guide you on a journey to greater wellness by teaching you the tools you need to move closer to your health goals and increase your personal resiliency.
Coaching: Helping you Help yourself
Develops confident, capable & self-reliant people.
Chronic disease and stress combined with a health care system designed to treat rather than prevent illness have a way of dismantling self-efficacy. Coaching leads you to reclaim your power, allowing you to climb back into the driver's seat of your well-being.
Builds long term wellness rooted in the willingness to be curious, learn & take action in small ways everyday.
Healing is an investigative process; a deep dive into finding out what works and what doesn't, and why. Coaching uses knowledge from the neuroscience of behavior change and psychology to help you develop sustainable habits that serve your overall well-being.
Embraces the wisdom of the body & allows it to serve as your compass.
While you may have spent a good deal of time feeling powerless over your health, the truth is that the real power doesn't lie within the hands of a medical doctor, a guru, or anyone else. Your path to freedom from disease lies within your very own hands, the knowledge already in your body. Our work together helps you tune into your body's messages and reunite the mind-body connection that's often weakened in chronic disease and stress sufferers.
I'm Jessica Hill Powell
My professional expertise centers around holistic wellness and behavior change. I have a degree in Psychology from Bellarmine University and completed my health coach training and certification at Duke Integrative Medicine. I'm also a trained yoga instructor and an aromatherapy wellness advocate. Many modalities, one goal: complete health & well-being.
All of those credentials might have you assuming I'm always on my A-game. You know, I workout consistently and eat well all the time, and I’m basically in perfect health and I'm here to show you how to be perfect too. My friend, that would set us both up for failure.
Here's what may surprise you: I deal with depression and anxiety and also have psoriatic arthritis (an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to ramp up and attack the joints and skin. It's put me in a wheelchair on more than one occasion.) Learning to live fully with these experiences is why I do this work. Feeling good in our own skin can require extra work for some of us, whether it's chronic disease, situational stress, or something else.
I’m healthy and resilient because I've spent the last decade learning how to care for my physical and emotional body. I can help you learn to do the same, in your own unique way. There are no one-size-fits-all answers when it comes to an individual’s health and well-being.
how does coaching improve health & well-being?
An integrative health coach is a behavior change expert. You are the expert on your own life. We meet in the middle through partnership to create a greater sense of well-being. Your participation in the health coaching process is about taking charge of your own wellness and and becoming empowered to make lasting health behavior changes that create greater health, balance, joy and meaning in your life.
Ultimately, health coaching serves as a bridge for you to move from disease and stress to enhanced personal wellness by calming chronic symptoms, and halting or even reversing disease progression.
The process centers around supporting you in discovering ways to successfully implement healthful changes across all areas of life. This is very intentional work to bridge the gap between medical recommendations and your abilities to successfully them into real life, with the goal of developing long-term health.
The most common side effects of health coaching are: improved mood and energy levels, better sleep and clarity of mind, less pain, greater mobility and more!
What Clients are Saying
Mother of 3

Presenting issues: Low energy levels, distended abdomen, sleeplessness, SIBO
Stephanie's history of starting things but not finishing them left her feeling less than confident that she could implement the lifestyle changes she needed to make to start feeling better. She's now thriving with improved digestive health, sleep and energy levels.
Presenting issues: Overweight, joint and muscular pain, high stress work environment
